These images are about the feeling of anxiety experienced by the typical Californian. The inner restlessness, the loneliness and the grim urban backgrounds... they all participate in an overwhelming atmosphere on the edge of fantastic, inside which the notions of individuality and free will are lost in the experience of the American dream.
"We are condemned to freedom" is Sartre's conclusion after his attempt to describe the feeling of existential angst lived by the modern man.
