Black and White California


These images are about the feeling of anxiety experienced by the typical Californian. The inner restlessness, the loneliness and the grim urban backgrounds... they all participate in an overwhelming atmosphere on the edge of fantastic, inside which the notions of individuality and free will are lost in the experience of the American dream.

"We are condemned to freedom" is Sartre's conclusion after his attempt to describe the feeling of existential angst lived by the modern man.

A short psyhedelic journey into the Haight-Ashbury district





    The Haight-Ashbury neighborhood of San Francisco became world wide famous between 1964 and 1968. The "Summer of Love" [1967] was the peak of the Haight-Asbury experience. 100000 people converged in the district in order to create an enlightened community. Long hair, grass and LSD, rock music, anarchist movements, poetry and graffiti were the specifics of the period. United as free spirits they really thought that can make a change. But, two years before Woodstock [1969], because of overcrowding and the SF city government new laws, everything came to an end and the hippies spread out to other places (...)
